The Twitter account of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, might have been hacked, The PUNCH noticed late Monday.
NAPTIP’S official deal with, @naptipnigeria, which has been its prime medium on the microblogging web site since 2013 was seen bearing hyperlinks to YouTube videos of a supposed bitcoin buying and selling lesson.
This is believed to be the handiwork of hackers who get entry to the backend of social media accounts of notable people and organisations to promote their merchandise to the unsuspecting viewers.
Eight hours earlier than the bizarre tweet, the company had posted a brief video clip with the caption: “In a bid to encourage members of the general public to take part within the battle to #endhumantrafficking now we have launched CONVERSATION with NAPTIP – a web based interactive platform to periodically work together with most people on burning points referring to Human Trafficking & SGBV.”
But at 08:13 pm Monday, NAPTIP tweeted a cryptocurrency-themed YouTube video hyperlink with the caption, “Crypto holders, examine this out!👇”.
Recall that in a present of digital drive, hackers breached the Twitter accounts of former US President Barack Obama, present US President Joe Biden, hip hop artist Kanye West, and billionaires, Bill Gates and Elon Musk in July 2020.
The hackers had tweeted similar messages which learn: “I’m giving again to the group. All Bitcoin despatched to the handle beneath shall be despatched again doubled! If you ship $1,000, I’ll ship again $2,000. Only doing this for half-hour.”
Spokespersons of the affected public figures all described the message as a rip-off. But on the time, hundreds of followers had taken the bait.
Although Twitter rapidly took down the posts, extra tweets emerged from the identical accounts minutes later.
